A STROLL THROUGH THE SUBCONSCIOUS.

– LUIS ROYO

I fell in love with Luis Royo the moment I first set eyes on his work, which was via issue 146 of the ImagineFX magazine, where he’d created the cover art; Soon after I had Luis Royo books appearing on my doorstep, and prints going up on my wall.

The more I saw, the more I loved. His wild sketches art book trilogy for instance, if you’re into sexy loose sketches, are pure perfection.

It’s the way his female characters look at you. I’m convinced I’ve seen them winking, licking their lips, almost luring you into the scene … makes me wonder, are they possessed by spirits, or spirits about to possess me?

The name of the painting that first grabbed me on the imagineFX 146 cover was ‘The Cross of the Night‘, which shows a female with a beast behind her, his claw gently touching her waist, yet still drawing blood. Luis Royo has many of these types of illustrations, where you have a female character with some sort of non human entity connected to them, and I just can’t decide whose controlling who.

Sometimes I feel like the girls are manifesting these beasts to fight alongside them, but at what cost?

One thing I know for certain, these females are powerful, yet soft and sensual beings that I imagine make a living from seducing their victims.

My Favourite Luis Royo Art Luz the return 2 and The Announcement

ME FAVOURITES

It’s so hard to pick just two, but my first favourite Luis Royo painting is Luz The Return 2, which shows a determined caped female emerging from the mist. Her sexy pose, outfit, and way her fists are ready … it’s like shits about to go down in this one.

The Announcement is my other favourite, and shows a girl chained, bruised, and tortured. I’ve never felt so sorry for a character before, yet in those eyes I see a fire. When she gets free, and she will, there’s going to be hell to pay.

Both these paintings can be found in the gallery below.

There’s a theme running through Luis Royo’s paintings, and it’s one of intense energy: Emotions. Desires. Cravings. There’s so much pure raw power in these paintings, that you can’t help but me pulled in and captivated.

They feel real as well. I sense these girls are out there right now in the spirit world, lost in their adventures. Slaying beasts and creatures, in all manner of savage seductive ways. Beautiful yet terrifying. Sexy yet Scary. In awe, yet totally afraid. What if they see me watching them from afar? Will I be their next victim?

And what about the beasts? Do they represent men with their overpowering, uncontrollable lust, and desire? I can’t help but wonder, and this is something Luis Royo does so well, he gets you thinking.

They say curiosity killed the cat, and while I feel that’s what ultimately consumed many of these girls victims, we, as the viewer, are just as under the spell as those in the paintings.

On this page is just a handful of Luis Royo’s work, and doesn’t, for instance, include any of his sexy loose sketches, such as those in his Wild Sketches art book trilogy, a video of which you can see below.
