Cats of June 2019 Art Challenge - Days 25 to 30 with Artist Sophie Lawson
ORIGINALLY POSTED • 5TH JULY 2019

The cats are in bed. Fast asleep :) 30 days of drawing Cats for the Cats of June Art Challenge came to an end a few days ago, and I learnt so much from this one.

Like all the other art challenges, despite Enjoying it from Start to Finish, there’s a part of me that’s Relieved it’s all over.

I talk about that, and more of the tings I learnt during this Cats of June Art Challenge in the following video, which is Episode 66 of the So Free Art Podcast.

DAYS 25 TO 30

These digital paintings are now part of the Affirmations Section :)

WHAT I LEARNT

I’m going to keep this one brief, as I recorded episode 66 of the So Free Art Podcast yesterday and talked about what I learnt over the full 30 days in a lot more detail, so once that goes live on Sunday, I’ll stick it down the bottom of this post.

I learnt so much though. It was Fun, Really Fun, especially trying out all these different mediums. My favourite was probably Sketching, just because it was the most relaxing, but the Inking showed me how much my line quality has improved since started the How to Ink 2.0 course at SVSLearn, while Watercolouring showed me How Limited My Skills Are.

These final 6 days made me question if I want to go fully into the world of Digital Painting.

SCREENS?

I don’t like Starring at Screens for Extended Periods of Time. I really noticed that doing the Digital Painting days. It’s a sort of paradox, because I enjoy how Digital Painting is like a big problem solving exercise, it’s super satisfying, but as soon as I put the Surface Pro down, I always feel Exhausted.

It’s not just linked to Digital Painting either, I get this same feeling after editing videos, podcasts or working on the website.

So I’m wondering now how to go about getting some sort of Balance Between Working Traditionally and Digitally, so I can enjoy the best of both worlds. That’s the main thing I learnt from days 25 to 30.

THE NEXT 8 DAYS?

There is no more 8 days :) As I said earlier, I’m Sad but Happy.

Sad, because it was a fun challenge and I always enjoy seeing how these art challenges can Push You Beyond Your Limits.

Happy because No More Commitments. Woohoo! No more having to post to Instagram each morning, no more having to do anything lol

Since the challenge finished on Sunday, I’ve been out with nature. Just chilling and enjoying the no commitment life style :) It’s been nice, but I already miss drawing these cats.

I want to thank Joen Söderholm for inviting us to be part of this Fun Art Challenge; you can see his cats on Instagram @JoenSoderholm

So that’s that. Cats of June turned out to be a fun 30 day Art Challenge that I intend to play along with again next year.

ACCEPT THE CHALLENGES SO THAT YOU CAN FEEL THE EXHILARATION OF VICTORY
